Why Research Matters

There is still much we do not know about why ovarian cancer develops, how to identify women at greatest risk, and how to detect the disease earlier. Researchers are working to understand how ovarian cancer begins, identify biomarkers that could lead to earlier detection, uncover why some tumors respond to treatment while others become resistant, and develop more effective and less toxic therapies.
At SHOC, we believe promising ideas deserve the opportunity to become discoveries. By funding innovative ovarian and gynecologic cancer research, we help investigators explore new questions and generate the evidence needed to move promising research forward.

Every breakthrough begins with a question.

Every discovery begins with research.

And every investment in research brings us closer to better prevention, better detection, better treatments, and better outcomes for women with ovarian cancer.

HELP US MOVE RESEARCH FORWARD

Your support of SHOC helps give researchers the resources to pursue promising new approaches in gynecologic cancer research.

Together, we can turn promising ideas into progress and hope.

New Hope in Ovarian Cancer Treatment

The treatment of ovarian cancer is changing rapidly. New therapies are increasingly designed to target the unique biology of each woman's cancer and, in some cases, harness her own immune system to fight it.

Recent advances include relacorilant, newly FDA-approved in combination with chemotherapy for certain women with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, and promising antibody-drug conjugates such as Rina-S, which targets folate receptor-alpha and has shown activity across a range of FRα expression levels.

Immunotherapy is also evolving. While immune checkpoint inhibitors benefit only selected ovarian cancers, researchers are exploring increasingly personalized approaches, including treatments designed around an individual tumor's unique mutations and immune response.

These advances represent an important shift toward more targeted, more individualized treatment -- and new options for women whose cancers have stopped responding to traditional therapies.

Progress is happening. Research is making it possible.
OUR MISSION

Raise funds for research, increase public awareness, and provide survivors with resources and opportunities to feel empowered through their fight and beyond.
