$50,000 Research Award

AI-Enabled Early Detection and Risk Stratification for Ovarian Cancer

SHOC has awarded $50,000 to support an innovative research project that leverages artificial intelligence and real-world clinical data to improve early detection of ovarian cancer.

​This study integrates longitudinal electronic medical records with genomic information to develop advanced risk-prediction models capable of identifying ovarian cancer earlier, when outcomes are most favorable.

By focusing on dynamic risk stratification in symptomatic women, this work has the potential to inform future clinical strategies and address one of the most critical unmet needs in ovarian cancer care.

$25,000 Pilot Research Award

Targeting GBP-1 to Overcome Chemotherapy Resistance and Immune Suppression in Ovarian Cancer

SHOC has awarded $25,000 in pilot funding to support mechanistic and translational research examining the role of Guanylate-Binding Protein 1 (GBP-1) in ovarian cancer progression, chemotherapy resistance, and immune suppression.

Using complementary murine models and human tumor analyses, this project seeks to define how GBP-1 shapes the tumor microenvironment and to evaluate a first-in-class GBP-1 inhibitor as a potential therapeutic strategy.

​This award provides catalytic support for key experiments that will strengthen the foundation for future external funding and novel combination therapies.

Green Space, Green Care, and Ovarian Cancer Survival

SHOC has awarded $10,000 in seed funding to support an exploratory, survivor-centered research project investigating the role of green space exposure and nature-based interventions (“Green Care”) in improving ovarian cancer survival and psychosocial well-being.

Leveraging national epidemiological cohorts alongside qualitative research with patients and providers in Oregon, this study explores how modifiable environmental factors may buffer the negative effects of distress and social isolation on outcomes.

​This award reflects SHOC’s commitment to supporting early-career women investigators and innovative, non-pharmacologic approaches that advance equity, quality of life, and survivorship research.
